Kids Golf Classic
Annually, United Bank proudly hosts the Kids Golf Classic. The event, which began in 1997, benefits the Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg, and has raised more than $2.8 million to assist the nonprofit organization.
The funds, which are not restricted for any one specific use, allow the organization to improve both the quality and quantity of the programs and services they provide. The organization serves between 100 and 200 youth per day by providing access to a safe, diverse facility with caring adult professionals that contribute to academic success, character building and healthy lifestyle choices.
Annual proceeds of the tournament account for 40% of the organization’s operating expenses, and according to Ben Shuman, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg, are vital to the organization’s success.
The 2018 event generated $191,000 in donations which will directly impact the more than 600 youth served annually by the organization.
"Thanks to United Bank and all the many sponsors of the Kids Golf Classic, the Club was able to provide a full year of programs and support to more than 1,200 youth last year alone. That is 1,200 kids who received healthy meals and snacks, academic help, mentoring and positive youth development. Without the generous support from our community, the Club would cease to exist and hundreds of kids who need us the most would struggle to find academic support and caring mentors who genuinely want to ensure they have a great future."
-Ben Shuman, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg
The tournament, which is entirely underwritten by United Bank has tremendous community support from golfers and businesses alike, many of whom have participated since the tournament’s inception. Because of United’s underwriting, 100% of the funds raised from entry fees, sponsorships and donations directly benefit the Boys and Girls Club.
In total, 140 golfers participated in the tournament, which was sponsored by over 167 local businesses and community members.
2019 tournament information to be announced.
